Grasshoppers and Crickets of Cornwall

Great Green Bush-cricket by Adam Poledníček

The Orthoptera (grasshoppers and crickets) is an enigmatic species group which is easy to get into and start recording. There are 17 extant species resident in Cornwall and most of these are easy to identify, once you know what to look for.

In this workshop, we will look at the species found in Cornwall and explain how to go about identifying them. We will also take a look at some of the vagrant species that we have been seeing more of in recent years and could potentially start breeding here.

The workshop will be delivered via Zoom and will include a mix of quality photos, diagrams and sound clips to help you understand the difference between the species. We expect the workshop to last no longer than 3 hours with a short break in the middle, and will include a question and answer session at the end.
