Rockpool Wildlife

Velvet Swimming Crab by Niki Clear

The intertidal zone is wide and varied, with a range of climatic, geological and hydrological conditions influencing the wildlife that can be found there. Perhaps the most diverse are the rockpools, where littoral marine life take shelter and wait for the next tide. These havens are rich in seaweeds and marine invertebrates and can be incredibly rewarding to search. In this workshop, we will begin by gaining an understanding of the ecology of rockpools and the species assemblages found there, before heading out to the nearby shore to see what we can find.
