Conservation Activities Map
Project Summary

The Cornwall Biodiversity Initative (CBI) comprised of environmental and biodiversity organisations in Cornwall including members from ERCCIS, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, National Trust, SWW, Cornwall Council, RSPB, Woodland Trust, EA, FWAG.
In 2016 ERCCIS was asked by the CBI and the Catchment Partnership to create a map of past, present and current conservation activities in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

It has long been the aspiration for conservation organisations in Cornwall to coordinate, produce, and maintain, a single source of information about the historic, active and future conservation project and activities in the county. This Activity Layer aims to show relevant conservation/biodiversity projects/initiatives being carried out in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to the benefit all organisations working in the county, to facilitate a coordinated approch and further colaberative working. With support from the Local Nature Partnership and Catchment Partnership, ERCCIS is creating and maintaining such a resource which will be annually updated and freely available to organisations, groups and individuals through the ERCCIS website.

The Benefits

The existence of a single GIS layer showing all the projects will have a number of benefits:

  • Enhance the opportunities for collaboration between organisations
  • Ensure limited funding is properly focussed to avoid duplication or needless overlapping of projects
  • Enable the planning of future project work to be cohesive and beneficial
  • Ensure learning and resources from past projects is not forgotten/lost post completion
