Bat Ecology, Identification and Recording Workshop

Brown Long-eared Bat by Steve Marshall

We will cover general bat ecology, how bats echolocate and what they use echolocation for. An indoor session will look at different types of detectors/recorders and the software required to interpret recordings. As dusk approaches, we will take a walk around the reserve recording bats for approximately an hour. We will return to the classroom to analyse the recordings, discuss what was found and how bats and their calls vary with differing habitats.
